Research In Motion tops the list of owners receiving the most Canadian patents during 2012. The others in the top five were Qualcomm, P&G, Schlumberger and LG Electronics. Approximately 20,000 Canadian patents were granted last year.
According to my analysis the owners that received the most patents in Canada in 2012 were:

- Procter & Gamble – 187 patents
- Schlumberger Canada Limited – 151 patents
- LG Electronics – 150 patents
- Honda Motor – 127 patents
- Baker Hughes – 109 patents
- F. Hoffman-La Roche – 104 patents (tied)
- Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki – 104 patents (tied)
- Pratt & Whitney Canada – 100 patents
- Samsung Electronics – 95 patents
- Microsoft – 92 patents
- Airbus Operations SAS – 85 patents
- General Electric – 80 patents
- SNECMA – 78 patents
- Halliburton Energy Services – 77 patents
- Novartis – 72 patents
- SMS Siemag – 66 patents (tied)
- Weatherford/Lamb – 66 patents (tied)
- Ethicon Endo-Surgery – 66 patents (tied)
