Appointments

Kirkland G. Shannon, Director General and Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Law Commission of Canada in Ottawa, was appointed an Associate Judge of the Federal Court. Appointments were also made today to the Tax Court, and courts of New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, and Alberta.

  • Tax Court:
    • John A. Sorensen, Partner at Gowling WLG in Toronto, was appointed a Judge of the Tax Court of Canada.
  • Quebec
    • The Honourable Christian Immer, a Judge of the Superior Court of Quebec for the district of Montréal, was appointed a puisne Judge of the Court of Appeal of Quebec in Montréal.
    • The Honourable Alain Trudel, a Judge of the Court of Québec in Trois-Rivières, was appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Quebec in Shawinigan.
    • Robert Leckey, Dean at the Faculty of Law of McGill University in Montréal, was appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Quebec in Montréal.
  • Ontario
    • Frances M. Wood, Partner at Wood Gold LLP in Mississauga, was appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario, Family Court, in Kitchener.
    • Tammy W. Law, a sole practitioner in Toronto, was appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario, Family Court, in Hamilton.
    • Rasim Misheal, a sole practitioner in Burlington, was appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario, Family Court, in Welland.
  • New Brunswick
    • Maurice C. Richard, K.C., Assistant Deputy Attorney General, Division of Family Crown Services, at the Department of Justice and Public Safety for the Province of New Brunswick in Moncton, was appointed a Judge of the Court of King’s Bench of New Brunswick, Family Division, in Moncton.
  • Alberta
    • Kathryn H. Oviatt, K.C., Chief of the Commission and Tribunals at the Alberta Human Rights Commission in Edmonton, was appointed a Justice of the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta in Edmonton.
    • Kristan A. McLeod, Managing Partner at Chivers Carpenter Lawyers in Edmonton, was appointed a Justice of the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta in Edmonton.
    • Shannon W. Davis, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor at the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service in Grande Prairie, was appointed a Justice of the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta in Grande Prairie.
