Bill C-100 was introduced today for first reading, An Act to implement the Agreement between Canada, the United States of America and the United Mexican States. The Bill includes amendments to the Copyright Act and Trademarks Act.
See the text of Bill C-100 (first reading): link.
See my earlier article (link) for some of the intellectual property issues in the trade agreement. Some preliminary observations:
Copyright (s22 and following) – term increased for some types of works as well as other changes relating to copyright term but not a general extension to life+70.
Trademarks (s106 and following) – deemed infringement and goods in transit.
Trade secrets (s33 and following) – adds a criminal offence for a person by deceit, falsehood or other fraudulent means, knowingly obtains a trade secret or communicates or makes available a trade secret
