In an announcement today, the Honourable Justice David Near was elevated from the Federal Court to the Federal Court of Appeal and the Honourable Justice Peter Annis of the Ontario Superior Court was appointed to the Federal Court. Judicial appointments were also made today in Ontario, Newfoundland & Labrador, Alberta and Quebec.
Justice David Near has been a judge of the Federal Court since 2009. He is appointed to the Federal Court of Appeal to replace Justice Evans.
Justice Peter Annis has been a judge of the Ontario Superior Court since 2010. He is being appointed to the Federal Court to replace Justice Near.
The other appointments made today were:

- The Honourable David F. Hurley to the Trial Division of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador.
- The Honourable Barbara L. Veldhuis to the Court of Appeal of Alberta and The Honourable Thomas W. Wakeling, The Honourable Kim D. Nixon, The Honourable Charlene S. Anderson, The Honourable Russell S. Brown to the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta (announcement)
- The Honourable Louis Dionne, The Honourable Pierre Labrie and The Honourable Jean-François Michaud to the Superior Court of Quebec (announcement)
All of the appointments are effective immediately.
