The Ontario Superior Court has published a practice advisory entitled “Guidelines for Preparing and Delivering Electronic Documents requested by Judges”, a set of checklists, instructions and guidelines for ‘e-Delivery’ of electronic documents to judges of the Court’s Commercial List as part of a pilot project.
The guidelines helpful provide both discussion points for judges and counsel when deciding on the format of electronic documents as well as step-by-step instructions for creating PDF documents that include internal hyperlinks and other features that make them more useful.
It will be interesting to see if other Courts which currently informally receive electronic documents from counsel adopt or adapt similar guidelines.
