The Federal Courts Rules Committee has issued a discussion paper regarding possible changes to the Federal Courts Rules to allow for better use of technology in the Court. Comments are requested by June 17, 2011July 15, 2011.
The proposals would allow the court to maintain records in electronic form and better allow for exchanging and serving documents electronically. This discussion paper references the Notice to the Profession of July 2009 on delivering documents by email and the Supreme Court of Canada’s recent guidelines on preparing electronic documents.
Update: According to the Federal Court website, the deadline for comments has been extended to July 15, 2011.
