The Supreme Court of Canada announced that Justice Ian Binnie and Justice Louise Charron will be retiring at the end of August.
Justice Binnie is particularly well known to intellectual property lawyers for writing the decisions in Whirlpool and Free World Trust, the leading cases on claim construction, Veuve Clicquot and Mattel on famous trademarks, the AZT Case on sound prediction and inventorship, Bristol Myers (paclitaxel) and Apotex (omeprazole) on the PM(NOC) regulations, Théberge and Tariff 22 on copyright infringement and Cadbury Schweppes on trade secrets.
